A charter was granted to Zonta
Club of Olympia on October 10, 1928. Zonta
International is a nonprofit service organization,
and the following are some of its objectives:

To encourage high ethical standards in
business and professions.

To improve the legal, political, economic,
and professional status of women.
|
 |
To work for the advancement of understanding,
goodwill and peace through a world fellowship
of executives in business and professions,
united in the Zonta ideal of service.

Zonta Club of Olympia has
approximately forty members, professional and
executive women who attend as many meetings as
their profession allows. Our clubs current
focus is to work to lesson violence against women
and children.
The Club meets three Thursday s
each month at noon, and one evening meeting on
the first Thursday. The Board meets the second
Thursday, and a business meeting is held the Dues
speakers are present at various meetings.
The Olympia Club has been in the
forefront of the fight against trafficking in
women and children, and has helped to establish
the first laws in the state of Washington against
the crime.
International Service Projects of
the Club include the fight against trafficking
of women and children in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and
eradicating violence against women.
Past local service projects of the
club include: the Salvation Army, St. Peter Hospital
Childrens Sexual Assault Clinic, Safeplace,
YWCA, Senior Service S.T.A.R.S program, Monarch
Therapeutic Childrens Program, and Child
Care and Educational Services- Kinship Program.
Two Scholarship are awarded each
year: The Doris Drees Scholarship for women returning
to school at South Puget Sound Community College
and the Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship
for young women entering public affairs or policy-making
fields.
Funds are raised through various
events such as an annual auction dinner, and a
food booth during Lakefair.
